Responsible leadership: a model based on Jewish text.
In these challenging times, we are faced with leaders and public figures that exhibit and employ a wide range of leadership styles. While leaders and leadership styles vary greatly, Judaism teaches us that certain principles should be followed by all leaders. Key among these is responsibility. How does a leader interact with others in a caring manner and how does a leader anticipate and understand the effects of his or her actions? An effective leader should embrace both qualities of responsibility: care for others and an understanding of the impact of his or her actions. How have our Jewish leaders been mentored most effectively throughout history? And finally, what are positive models for transitions in leader ship that Judaism teaches us about? Through Jewish text study, we will explore and discuss several aspects of the Jewish model of responsible leader ship. We will also specifically highlight female leadership. No knowledge of Hebrew is necessary to study and discuss these texts.
