Sweet and Holy Friends, join Anne Goldberg as she interviews our beloved member Elaine Bloom, in our ‘Getting to Know TAO’ series of interviews where we learn more about our TAO friends and members.
From Elaine Bloom: First let me say, I am planning to retire from professional work in January 2021. Why, and what have I been doing with my time? I started as a salesclerk in a family owned low-income department store at age 15 until I graduated from Newton HS. From there I went to Emerson College to receive my Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Then, because I couldn’t think of what to do, I was offered a grant to go on for my master’s degree in the same field. I met my husband who had just joined the faculty because the director of the program said I could work off my grant working for Larry 15 hours a week in the Speech Clinic and 6 hours a week in the Audiology clinic. In 1964, we moved to Pittsburgh for 3 years for Larry to earn his Doctoral degree, but we stayed 31 years before moving to Florida. I have been working in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Nova Southeastern University since 7/14/1995. I’ve done a lot while there and now it is time to find something else to do.
Anne Goldberg has been doing personal interviews for more than 15 years as part of TAO’s People of Distinction and her own legacy video business. Most of her work is with boomers and seniors, helping them to know they are old enough to have a past and young enough to have a future – at any age – through her original lecture series, The Art of Living Longer. Currently, she and her partner David Hall, produce The Savvy Seniors Show on YouTube, free content to ‘edu-tain’ folks while under quarantine. A two-term past-president of TAO, Anne chaired the Oneg committee for five years, chaired many events, has been a member of the High Holy Day choir for 14 years and, in the before times, she ran the Power Point virtual Siddur at virtually all of TAO’s Shabbat services since 2014. Anne is delighted to be a part of Getting to Know TAO.
