This is Shabbat Shuva, the “Sabbath of Returning,” which falls on the shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. It is a time for reflection and repentance.
On the deepest level, whether you are aware of it or not, forgiveness has already occurred. It is waiting for anger and shame to subside in order to be recognized. (Compassion, p. 139)

This is Erev Yom Kippur, the chant of Kol Nidre to release all vows, and know forgiveness.
Return is known in Hebrew as teshuvah. As you let go of mistakes, you return to your own divine nature, to the uniqueness of who you are, and above all, to reunion with an unconditionally loving God. (Compassion, p. 136)
